Weeks of triple-digit heat in Kansas, but nature keeps trying. This Eastern Kingbird thought her nest was in an ideal, safe, location. Unfortunately, not much shade. The little ones should be out of the nest in a week or so.

Heat stress, 106 degrees later today.  Mom keeps ruffled for cooling, and chicks try to reach out of nest
Mom protects the nest (could be dad)
Dad shows up with a tidbit.  She opens her mouth.  He will give it to her for the chicks
I'm ready, she says
Great couple!
